For the past two years the CAN Community Council has focused its efforts on better understanding the issues affecting families living in poverty. Last year the council submitted a report to the CAN Board of Directors entitled “A Closer Look at Child Poverty in Travis County.” The report summarizes the council’s discussions on issues relating to child poverty and included suggested strategies and actions that might help to better address the needs of low-income families. You can access the the Community Council’s report on child poverty using this link: http://canatx.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/CC-child-poverty-final-report-v11-Single-Page-Format.pdf .

The September 17, 2018 meeting of the CAN Community Council will include a forum discussion with members of our local delegation about how we can better support families with children living in poverty. We will have an opportunity to visit with State Representative Donna Howard, State Representative Eddie Rodriguez, and State Representative Gina Hinojosa about their legislative priorities for the 2019 legislative session that relate to children and families. This session will be interactive so please come prepared to ask questions!

This meeting is free and open to the public.
