Expanded Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (EMCOT)

This team partners with first responders to help prevent unnecessary jail bookings and emergency department admissions by providing real-time co-response to mental health crisis calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. EMCOT provides short-term, community-based interventions to stabilize a person in psychiatric crisis. This team receives referrals from first responders, jail personnel and EMCOT Call Center Clinicians (C3s).

Response teams include: EMCOT clinicians; EMCOT co-response with Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) Community Health Paramedics (CHP); and Austin CARES, a team made up of an EMCOT clinician, an Austin Police Department (APD) Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer, and a CHP responder.
