More than 130 people die in the US every day from a drug overdose. Accidental Overdoses have become the leading cause of deaths in the United States, and most are preventable. Texas Overdose Awareness Day on the evening of August 31st on the south steps of the State Capitol will highlight information and resources to help stop these unnecessary deaths.
With the number of fatalities from prescription drugs and illicit opioids growing, Texas Overdose Awareness Day is a chance to see that medicines are not always our friends. Painkillers and other pharmaceutical drugs play an important medical role but their use can have tragic long-term consequences. Education, prevention and access to life saving measures and medication will help curb this epidemic.
